Kelly Campbell believes that every individual has the power to transform their lives, no matter what circumstances they come from. Kelly is a living example of this belief. His early life was marked by hardship and struggle. Growing up He witnessed domestic abuse against his mother and experienced sexual abuse himself as a tender aged child. Kelly began looking for love in all the wrong places and was introduced to gang activity by the age of 9. Despite all of this, Kelly never felt loved. Placed in foster care by his own family, young Kelly would go on attend 43 different schools by the time he reached the 10th grade.

Due to a lack of support, Kelly resorted to selling drugs as a means of financial sustenance, which ultimately resulted in him going down an even darker path. As an adult, Kelly found himself homeless, having to boil pots of water to take a bath.
